Pre-requisites

Please check that you meet the requirements below before enrolling on this course:

Trainees must hold a recognised trade qualification (e.g. NVQ/SNVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing and Heating or Domestic Heating)

OR be working towards one

OR have evidence of a number of years’ experience in the plumbing or heating industry.

Course Overview:

This one-day course delivers comprehensive training in the design, installation, servicing, and maintenance of unvented domestic hot water storage systems, in line with G3 of the Building Regulations (England and Wales). It ensures compliance with current legislation and prepares installers to safely work on pressurised hot water systems.

Key Learning Outcomes:

• Understand the operation of unvented hot water systems
• Identify the legal and safety requirements (Building Regulations – G3)
• Learn correct installation practices and fault diagnosis
• Recognise key components and safety features
• Carry out commissioning, maintenance, and servicing procedures

Course Content:

• Overview of hot water system types (vented vs. unvented)
• Design considerations for unvented systems
• Key components: expansion vessels, pressure relief valves, temperature controls
• Safety and discharge arrangements
• Building Regulations Part G3 compliance
• Fault finding and maintenance procedures
• Installation best practices

 

Assessment:

• Multiple-choice written exam
• Practical assessment (e.g., identifying faults, system setup)

BPEC accredited certificate

Successful candidates receive a BPEC Certificate of Competence, which is recognised by employers, manufacturers, and local authorities. This certification allows registration with competent person schemes such as Gas Safe and others.

The majority of our courses require existing qualifications for you to enrol on them. A few of our courses don’t require qualifications, like the Solar PV Roof Installations – Practical Course, but it does help if you have some relevant experience.

We teach all of our theory courses at our training centre in Newcastle, our state of the art facility is a great place to learn! Class sizes are kept small so we can deliver focused, practical learning. You’re provided with all of the course materials, and any equipment needed to complete the course. 

Our practical courses are taught on site, and you get the opportunity to partake in live installations. If you enrol on a practical course, we will contact you to confirm the location.

Our non-accredited courses reward you with a Certificate of Completion, issued by Future Group Renewable Training. You can use this as evidence of competence on your CV.

• This course is for plumbing and heating engineers who want to install Domestic Hot Water Storage Systems, and will demonstrate their competence so they can either join a Competent Persons’ Scheme allowing the self-certification of installations, or to notify the local Building Control department prior to commencing work.
