Yes, being a qualified electrician gives you fantastic opportunities to work on Solar PV jobs. We offer a range of electrical courses, including courses specifically for Solar PV systems. These courses allow you to become BPEC qualified, and work towards MCS certification.
If you have a Level 3 electrical qualification, you will be eligible for our two Solar Electrical Courses:
Yes, transitioning from being a gas engineer to a heat pump engineer is possible. The UK government is encouraging homeowners to move away from gas boilers, and opt for low carbon systems like Air Source Heat Pumps. They’ve also considered phasing out gas boilers in new build properties, by creating new legislation.
Consequently, it’s a good career move to become qualified in heat pump engineering. This means you can work on both boilers and heat pump jobs, maximising your income and future-proofing your skillset.
At Future Group Training, we have heat pump courses designed for gas engineers who want to expand their skill set. The courses are suitable for qualified plumbers, heating engineers, oil engineers or gas engineers. You must hold a recognised NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent qualification.
These are the courses:
1) Low Temperature Hot Water Heating Systems 2-Day Course – BPEC
2) Domestic Air Source Heat Pump 3-Day Course – BPEC
The Low Temperature Hot Water Heating System course is a good pre-requisite for the second course, so we recommend you enrol on that one first.
Expert heat pump engineers can earn great salaries in the UK. This can be up to £75K for self-employed engineers who complete a high volume of installations.
At Future Group, we offer a £62K basic salary for experienced air source heat pump engineers. If you’re dedicated and get the right qualifications, being a heat pump engineer is very rewarding.
Yes, To meet the government’s Net Zero goals, the UK will need around 34,000 heat pump engineers. The latest data from the Heat Pump Association estimates there are around 11,000 qualified engineers in the UK. So there is still a big shortage of numbers in the sector.
In 2024 MCS reported that the UK has already reached 250,000 certified heat pump installations, with incentives like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme encouraging homeowners to invest in a heat pump. Now is a great time to become a heat pump engineer, and take advantage of the growing market.
Yes, if you’re a roofer it’s a great idea to become qualified in solar panel installation. This creates a second income stream for you. If you’re comfortable working at heights, you’ll adapt well to solar installations.
Why not give it a try with our Practical Solar PV Roof Installation Course? This course gives you the chance to install solar panels on different roof types, giving you hands-on experience. The course does not require any electrical knowledge, so it’s ideal for roofers.
