Course Overview:

This non-accredited, hands-on course is designed to equip delegates with the practical skills and safety knowledge required to install solar photovoltaic (PV) panels onto a range of roof types. The course is specifically for non-electrical individuals and does not cover any electrical work. Focus is placed on mounting procedures, working safely at height, and using approved fixing methods.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand different types of roofing and solar mounting systems
  • Install mounting rails, brackets, and PV modules to specification
  • Handle and position panels safely and effectively
  • Work at height in line with current health and safety regulations
  • Carry out installations on pitched and flat roofs
  • Identify and manage common installation hazards
  • Communicate with electrical installers for system handover

 

Course Content:

  • Introduction to solar PV systems (non-electrical overview)
  • Roof types, fixing methods, and structural considerations
  • Mounting systems: rails, brackets, hooks, and flashing kits
  • Tools, equipment, and PPE requirements
  • Manual handling and lifting techniques
  • Safe working at height, including ladder and roof access
  • Installation of panel arrays to manufacturer specifications
  • Final fix checks and mechanical handover procedures

 

Assessment:

  • Informal trainer-led observation and practical assessment
  • Skills checklist and optional short quiz

On successful completion, participants receive a Certificate of Completion issued by Future Group Renewable Training as evidence of competence in solar PV panel installation (non-electrical).

  • Delegates working alongside qualified electrical installers

The majority of our courses require existing qualifications for you to enrol on them. A few of our courses don’t require qualifications, like the Solar PV Roof Installations – Practical Course, but it does help if you have some relevant experience.

We teach all of our theory courses at our training centre in Newcastle, our state of the art facility is a great place to learn! Class sizes are kept small so we can deliver focused, practical learning. You’re provided with all of the course materials, and any equipment needed to complete the course. 

Our practical courses are taught on site, and you get the opportunity to partake in live installations. If you enrol on a practical course, we will contact you to confirm the location.
