Course Overview:
This one-day course provides essential training on safe isolation procedures for low voltage electrical systems in accordance with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. It is designed to help reduce the risk of electric shock or injury by ensuring proper isolation methods are used when working on or near live electrical systems.
Key Learning Outcomes:
• Understand the legal responsibilities under electrical safety legislation
• Recognise dangers associated with low voltage electrical systems
• Learn the correct sequence for safely isolating electrical installations
• Use test equipment correctly to confirm safe isolation
• Apply safe working practices and risk assessments
Course Content:
• Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 – overview and implications
• Requirements for isolation and proving dead
• Lock-off and tagging procedures
• Use of approved test equipment (e.g. voltage indicators, proving units)
• Permits to work and documentation
• Practical demonstration of safe isolation on a range of systems
• Consequences of unsafe isolation practices
Assessment:
• Written or multiple-choice test
• Practical assessment (safe isolation of a mock installation)
